Appearance:
Sophie and Howl’s first encounter in the Studio Ghibli film Howl’s Moving Castle occurs when Howl rescues Sophie from two harassing soldiers in the town. He escorts her to her sister Lettie’s bakery, apologizing for his supposed lateness and claiming he was “looking everywhere” for her. This initial meeting is brief before they part ways, and Sophie later encounters the Witch of the Waste, who transforms her into an old woman. This leads Sophie to seek out Howl’s Moving Castle in hopes of breaking the curse.
