Mario Flag Jump

Categories: ,

This game embroidery pattern is of the Mario character from the Super Mario video game series jumping on the level finish flag.

Mario (Japanese: マリオ Hepburn: Mario, pronounced [maɾi.o]; English: /ˈmɑːri, ˈmær-/, Italian: [ˈmaːrjo]) is a fictional character in the Mario video game franchise, owned by Nintendo and created by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Acting as the company’s mascot, as well as being the eponymous protagonist of the series, Mario has appeared in over 200 video games since his creation. Depicted as a short, pudgy, Italian plumber who resides in the Mushroom Kingdom, his adventures generally center upon rescuing Princess Peach from the Koopa villain Bowser. His fraternal twin brother and sidekick is Luigi.

A Goal Pole (also known as a flagpole[1], Goal Post[2] or pole[3][4]) appears at the end of every normal level in most of the mainstream Mario games. Mario, Luigi, or any other playable character has to jump and grab the Goal Pole to finish the level.

The flags on a flagpole come in many colors, though Red Flagpoles usually indicate an alternate exit in the New Super Mario Bros. games. Since then, if the player manages to grab the top of the flagpole, they will earn an extra life. Flagpoles were replaced with boxed, roulette-like goals in Super Mario Bros. 3, and Giant Gates in Super Mario World. These flagpoles symbolize Mario and friends taking over or claiming that area — taking down Bowser’s flag and/or replacing it with their own.
